Job Description

We are seeking a dependable organized and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant to support daily laboratory operations in a medical clinic. The Lab Assistant will help collect receive label prepare and process patient specimens while maintaining accurate records and following infection control and laboratory safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect receive label and process patient specimens including blood and urine samples as trained and authorized.
• Prepare specimens for laboratory testing and transport.
• Assist laboratory staff with routine tests and procedures within the scope of training and authorization.
• Maintain accurate patient information specimen logs and laboratory records.
• Clean and disinfect laboratory work areas and equipment.
• Monitor laboratory supplies and notify supervisors when restocking is needed.
• Follow patient privacy requirements infection control procedures and safety guidelines.
• Handle and dispose of biological materials and medical waste appropriately.
• Communicate professionally with patients nurses medical assistants and healthcare providers.
• Report specimen labeling errors damaged samples or equipment problems promptly.
  

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous laboratory healthcare or clinic experience preferred; some entry-level positions provide training.
• Basic computer and data-entry skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to follow written instructions and safety protocols.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Phlebotomy training or certification may be required if the position involves drawing blood.
